Strictly Business: Nick Gater V Luke Cuthill PDF  | Print |  E-mail

NGLCThis one was a cracker! Nick Gater (Team Bulldog) & Luke Cuthill (Boxing Bournemouth) had both met previously at an interclub tournament and were looking forward to facing each other for real.

With similar styles these two fought for position from the first to the last bell, making it one of the more difficult contests to judge. The shots were solid, but if anyone was hurting they didn't show it as they traded combinations.

Gater took a little longer to get into his stride but soon caught up and from there it was neck-a-neck all the way.

You could see from the corner teams that no one knew which way this was going as they pushed their men to finish each round on a high, and at the final bell the tightest of decisions went to Cuthill by 2-1.

This one could and should go again some way down the line!

Strictly Business: Shaun King V Odd Anders Vedding PDF  | Print |  E-mail

SKOAVIn one of three international contests on the 'Strictly' card, Shaun King (Team Bulldog) was looking for a decent comeback under Kickboxing rules. But things did not quite go to plan against Odd Anders Vedding (Bergen Norway).

The early work saw a fast pace and a lot of trading, which both men seemed happy with. King was taller and really needed to keep the Norwegian at range, but chose not to. Vedding was faster and kept the action close which suited his reach.

King took a flurry of punches including a solid body shot which sent him down for a count but he was soon up and trading again and as the bell went for the end of the first he was clearly right back in it.

The second round was more of the same with both men stepping up a gear. Again the range eluded King and they were soon trading again. Another combination to the body sent him down again but he was up at 6.

It was claer there was rib damage and King came in for a last stand in an effort to despatch Vedding, but the Norseman was having none of it.

The second round over the Bulldog corner made the wise decision to retire King on his stool to save any additional damage to his ribs, earning Vedding the win and the 'Best Prospect' award.

Strictly Business: Lee Stubbs V Ross Terry PDF  | Print |  E-mail

LSRTLee Stubbs (Team Bulldog) & Ross Terry (TKO) both came into the ring as undefeated boxers for this clash that looked like it might be one of the fights of the night.

Stubbs is the fighter who wears you down takes the wind out of your sails with each combination. But it was Terry's speed and footwork that was the deciding factor in this clash.

Stubbs spent the entire 3 rounds looking to set himself up to unload but was never really given the opportunity.

When he wanted to Terry traded but was soon out of danger with Stubbs in hot pursuit, but never quite finding the mark.

As each round passed this one was slipping away from Stubbs and this reflected in the wide scorecard, giving Ross Terry every round.

It was a good learning experience for Lee Stubbs who should get straight back into the gym and re-group!

Strictly Business: Adam Urban V Ian Squire PDF  | Print |  E-mail

AUISAdam Urban (Team Bulldog) had his work cut out against the more experienced Ian Squire (Steve Bendall Boxing).

Squire, although making his boxing debut, came with a decent Thai Boxing record and this ring experience served him well against the explosive Urban, who came flying at him from the opening bell.

Squire defended well and almost immidiately returned fire with strong combinations that looked more accurate and clinical.

Both men can be forgiven for fancying a trade off as in the heavyweight division one punch cancels out all the has come before it, and trade they did for almost the entire 3 round contest.

The audience loved the early carnage and by the 3rd round this looked to be an even money clash, although if you had to pick a winner, it was Squires cleaner work that caught the eye.

At the final bell one judge could not split them whilst the other two shaded it to Squire by a point each.

A great undercard clash and a superb boxing debut for both men!

Absolute Adrenaline - Strictly Business: Johnstone A Late Addition PDF  | Print |  E-mail

8 Jimmy-JohnstoneAlthough negotiations have been going on for some time, the Absolute Management Team have been unable to secure a suitable match for local MMA instructor Jimmy Johnstone (pictured).

Johnstone fighting out of and owner of Phoenix MMA, to his credit, has stayed on it and put his faith in the matchmaking team who have now delivered.

He will face BAMMA veteren Stuart Davies in a 3 round Pro MMA match up.

Look for Johnstone to have the upper hand on the floor where his BJJ has greatly improved. This will also be the Davis weak spot as most of his defeats have come via the submision route.

That said he scored a monumental victory over Scott Jannson last year and will be looking to emulate that kind of form.

More details to follow.

Carrotte is the more experienced but his success rate is limited despite never being in a dull fight.
