War On The Shore: Deano Disaster! PDF  | Print |  E-mail

deanoPICS FROM: www.ukdragon-photos.com

Dean Alexanders tilt at the Capital Punishment English welterweight Thai Boxing title ended in disaster as he was counted out on his feet in the first round.

There were no excuses for the Team Bulldog fighter who had prepared well and looked sharp and ready in training.

Opponent Jamie Hawkhead played exactly the right game as he came out to let Alexander know he was there. Both men were under instructions to do the same but it was Hawkhead who landed cleanly after about 20 seconds witha solid right hand.

Alexander was stunned and tried to rally but as they traded a short left hook nailed him and he was down for a count. He made it up at 6 on unsteady legs and came back with a superman punch. Hawkhead evaded this and returned fire. Alexander was game as he clinched and tried to regain his senses but Hawkhead was having none of it.

The Bulldog corner were screaming at Alexander to put his foe on the end of front kicks whilst he got himself together, but he opted to trade again. Another combination sent he towards the canvas and a head kick followed to end proceedings.

Still Alexander was up at 8 wanting to continue but the referee made exactly the right call.

Anyone can get caught early but we must not take away the fact that Hawkhead did a proper number on a top class fighter to win the English title!

Dean Alexanders condition is fine apart from a bruised face and ego and he will no doubt return after his medical suspension!

White Collar Boxing Kent: Norman Out Again! PDF  | Print |  E-mail

902152 355491557896349_665756724_oClara Norman stepped out again for the 2nd time in a week as she faced East London's Sarah Worsfold at a White Collar Boxing event in Kent.

It was a last minute stand in contest but Norman was fit and ready to make it happen.

The opening round was carnage as both women looked to impose, but it was Worsford who gained the edge, hurting Norman with solid combinations.

Fortunes swung in the 2nd as Norman found her range and delivered great shots of her won. But Horsford returned mid round to even things up again. It was a close contest.

The third was all Norman as she put together combinations and couldn't really miss. Just as Norman had been in trouble in the opening round, Horsfold now looked to be in trouble herself as Norman got stronger. But as before she fought back strongly to land decent combinations of her own.

At the final bell you could have gone either way without complaint so it is probably fitting that the contest was scored a draw.

Interestingly these two may now be matched up on the Absolute Adrenaline May event under Kickboxing rules.

Norway Fight Gala: Tough Night For The Team! PDF  | Print |  E-mail

norwayThe Norwegians certainly got their revenge for recent UK losses as a select team travelled to Bergen for their latest Kickboxing/Boxing Gala.

This was a tale of rematches and good fortune for the well prepared Norwegian select.

Clara Norman faced off in a rematch with Heidi Guldseth. Their first encounter ended with a decent points victory for Guldseth but a much improved Norman was looking to reverse that.

As a notoriously slow started Norman gave away the first round, giving herself a mountain to climb. But climb it she did as she march forward to take the second.

With the contest all about the final round both fighters went for a finish which was much appreciated by the vocal crowd.

Guldseth did enough to take the points victory.

Craig Jones looked to reverse his recent points loss to Jan Eric Varai in the UK but came unstuck early after walking on to a huge shot, less than a minute into the contest. He made the count, just but remained on one knee to be counted out.

Anthony Kit made his debut against Jon Sovold and looked good as he took the first round by a wide margin. However, he gassed early in the second and Sovold was able to take full advantage with his decent footwork and work rate.

Although Sovold took the decision, Kit looked as though he had plenty of potential and we look forward to seeing him again. Sovold, on the other hand can step straight up a division in Boxing or Kickboxing. He looked good and coped well with the early pressure.

In the other matches featuring Phoenix fighters:

Ibrahim Hoorash (Norway) outpointed Jamie Bourne (England) in another rematch

Jusif Hoorash (Norway) defeated James Harvey (England) vis corner retirement

Fion Omeara (England) outpointed Mads Valencia (Norway) saving the day for the English team.

We look forward to welcoming the Norwegians back to the Absolute Adrenaline event on 19th May.

Capital Punishment: Alexander Gets His Shot! PDF  | Print |  E-mail

warshoreDean Alexander gets his shot at The Muay Thai English welterweight title on Capital Punishments 'War On The Shore' on 21st April.dean-alexander

He faces the excellent Jamie Hawkhead in what promises to be an even money match up with plenty of action.

Alexanders last outing on the Executive Stress card showed that he has matured over the last 12 months and his all round skills have developed. He was not expected to be able to live with the clinch of his last opponent but actually dominated throughout, mainly from the clinch position.

This one will be lively, setting him up for an international match on Absolute Adrenaline on 19th May.

Tickets for both are available from Bulldog HQ or from Dean.

Norway Event: Joint Fight Teams Matched! PDF  | Print |  E-mail

norwayTeam Bulldog merge with Phoenix Academy to travel to Bergen, Norway on 6th April for their Fight Festival.

There have been a number of exchange trips over the years giving fighters the opportunity to travel abroad and experience the hospitality of other nations.

This event will be a mixture of White Collar Boxing, Boxing and Kickboxing. In addition there will be displays from other more traditional martial arts.

Bergen is a great city so it will be well worth the weekend trip if you fancy an awayday!

Scheduled to compete are (from Team Bulldog) - Craig Jones, Clara Norman & Anthony Kit.

craig-jonesCraig Jones gets Jan Erik Varai who has travelled to the UK twice in the last year (1 win, 1 loss). What makes thisn interesting is that the win was over Jones a few weeks ago. So the Bulldog fighter will be looking for a quick revenge!

Their last encounter was a good even battle but it was Verdai that had the edge in both fitness and speed, producving more work and ultimately the victory.

Clara Norman also gets a rematch as she faces Heidi Guldseth. The Norwegian defeated Norman about 15 months ago in a cracking whiteCLARA-NORMAN collar bout. Both are different fighters now so this will make an excellent rematch.

Norman has been busy notching up 2 wins and a draw in the last 6 months and will be looking to avenge her only recent loss. She is an example of what hard work and belief can achieve. This is a well deserved opportunity.

Anthony Kit is making his debut for Team Bulldog. He will face Jon Sovold who performed stylishly at the recent Executive Stress event. This one will be more skill than brutality but expect Kit to be stronger. Sovold has shown that he is not easy to hit and unless Kit shuts him down early, he could be chasing and getting picked off for the duration.

The Phoenix Academy also have a strong team travelling over.

Jamie Bourne who recently lost on points to Ibrahim Hoorash, gets the opportunity to avenge that defeat. He insists that he was below par previously and although there is no question that Hoorash is a solid and skilful fighter, he would like the opportunity to face him fully loaded.

James Harvey faces Jusif Hoorash, bigger brother of Ibrahim. We don't know anything about him but Harvey is good enough to make a difference so it will be an interesting contest.

Pick of the bunch is Fion Omerea V Mads Valencia. Both are explosive nand charismatic.

Valencia thrilled us against James Cornick last year in Bournemouth and Omerea was devastating against Danny Zuco just a few weeks ago.

Anybody interested in travelling to attend, pl;ane tickets are still reasonable. Call (01202) 294223 for details

Walkin' The Walk: King Gets Revenge! PDF  | Print |  E-mail

10 Shaun-KingA long anticipated rematch between Weymouth's Matt Hale and Team Bulldog's Shaun King finally came to a head last Saturday under White Collar Boxing rules.

Their first encounter about 3 years ago ended in defeat for King over 3 rounds and this time he was keen to avenge the result.

Just like the first time around there was nothing in this as they both traded and swapped awkward styles. But it was King who was slicker as he used his long reach to stop Hale in his tracks.

The Weymouth fighter constantly looked to pressure King but came up short as he stood his ground. Even so, Hales work rate was high and there was a danger that he would hustle a victory out of this. But King was too clean and notched up a much deserved points win and sweet revenge!

Executive Stress Results: Alexander Looks Good! PDF  | Print |  E-mail

dean-alexanderThis was a great match up!

Dean Alexander (Team Bulldog) V Sam Smith (Sakprasert) under Thai rules was an interesting and absorbing battle.

Alexander, having fought mainly under KBX rules was making the transition, whilst Smith was the purist with a lovely style.

Both men traded early low kicks and punches before falling into the clinch where Smith had been expected to be comfortable. However Alexander kept good control and worked throughout, racking up the points.

There was no feeling out process and at each given opportunity they both traded before clinching again. Smith punched harder than expected but was unable to sustain his onslaught's and a calm Alexander was able to take it in his stride.

After bagging the first 2 rounds on all scorecards, the Bulldog fighter was put under pressure in the third as  Smith knew that he would have to take control if he was to get a result. There was less clinch and more range fighting which suited him, giving him the round on 2 of the scorecards.

Into the 4th and Alexander once again controlled the clinch and worked throughout to take the round on all cards.

Smith now needed the stoppage and was well aware. he came out looking to finish which made for and exciting finale to a good contest. But it wasn't enough. With one judge going down the middle and one for each fighter in this round Dean Alexander came away a unanimous winner!
