Executive Stress Results: Norman Still Boss! PDF  | Print |  E-mail
Sunday, 03 March 2013 22:59

CLARA-NORMANThe first contest between Clara Norman (Team Bulldog) and Jo Hodgkinson (NRG) was a cracker, with Norman taking the spoils. In the re-match we got an even better match up under KBX rules.

There was quite a lot of social media hype for this one with many thinking that Hodgkinson had progressed massively since their first meeting, and would be favourite to win this time.

However, with the gym doors closed from prying eyes at 6am in the morning, Norman had worked for 6 weeks + specifically for this challenge.

It was true to say that Hodgkinson has made fantastic progress and she came out looking to control the action with her trademark left high kick and a decent push kick. This worked well initially but Normans plan was to give her no space and make every single shot count, and that she did.

Although Norman's work was more solid, there was a concern that Hodgkinsons eye catching kicks would score well. As it was 2 judges scored the round to Norman with the third going even.

In the second Norman was getting into her stride but early on Hodgkinsons kicks were once again strong and effective. But Normans work rate was higher and her punches were hurting. Even so the NRG girl was still right in this contest and she began to force the Bulldog fighter back as her concentration went for a period. One judge went for Hodgkinson in this round with the other two favouring the more solid work of Norman.

The third round was the decider. Norman stepped up, Hodgkinson didn't. The punch combinations now finished with good kicks to the mid-section. The NRG girl had been bleeding from the nose since round one which made things look worse than they were, but now she was being hit cleanly and often.

Once again she rallied with great kicks but Norman was not having it and forced her back again to get the final round on all 3 cards.

The final result was a majority win to Clara Norman, with one judge scoring a draw.

At 2-0 this should now be an end to this rivalry and they can now both move on to other contests!

Executive Stress Results: Giles V Burnley = Awesome! PDF  | Print |  E-mail
Sunday, 03 March 2013 22:47

dave-gilesDave Giles (Team Bulldog) and Chris Burnley (Phoenix) gave us an absolute war and a contender for fight of the night in their White Collar Boxing contest.

Burnley was totally fired up and came straight at Giles, who stayed calm under pressure. The shots came without a break for the first half minute before Giles settled. There were some shaky moments as anything that connected would surely have ended the bout early.

As Giles came out of the storm he began to connect with body shot combinations which Burnley clearly felt. Despite the early onslaught his work was now more accurate and you could see the fire go out in Burnley's belly (but not his heart).

After a minutes rest the Phoenix fighter came out with the same mission and looked for the early part of the round stoppage. But Giles had it covered and this time traded even more confidently with excellent combinations.

All that Burnley could do now was find that one punch. He knew that he was behind but looked confident enough to be able to land the shot. Giles in the meantime was racking up the points.

The final round was more of the same. An exhausted Burnley came out with a huge heart and threw everything until he was almost at a stand still. Giles sucked it up and punished him again with body shots. Burnley showed no pain but you knew that he was hurting inside. Despite this they both traded right up to the final bell with Giles taking the decision!

Executive Stress Results: A Mention For The Bloodline Fighters! PDF  | Print |  E-mail
Sunday, 03 March 2013 22:24

bulldog-bloodlineOn a very busy night at Executive Stress lll, there were several Bulldog Bloodline fighters appearing on the stacked bill as well as the main Team Bulldog.

Jo Hodgkinson (NRG) was pitched against Clara Norman (Team Bulldog) in a 'Repeat or Revenge' re-match. See full report for details.

Adam Newman (John Whitam Training) faced Tony Johansen (Norway) in an international White Collar Boxing bout.

Newman has made great progress since his debut on Absolute Adrenaline last November. He was in good shape and looked up for the challenge.

However, Johansen was extremely strong and made it hard for Newman to get his shots off. Each time he scored, the Norwegian would back him up with 3 shots in return, setting a pattern for the whole contest.

In the end Newman just didn't do enough, dropping a points decision.

Jamie Drayson (NRG) faced Alex Cox (Phoenix) in an absolute war under White Collar Boxing rules.

The pair stood toe to toe and traded with Cox looking just that little bit slicker in the first round.

It was clear that this pace would begin to tell on both of these novice fighters and sure enough by the middle of the second, Cox was looking ragged. Towards the end of the round he took a series of shots which saw his legs buckle before taking a count. Rising at the count of 6 he was able to survive the last 20 seconds of the round.

Drayson was now in finishing mode and came straight out at Cox in the final round, knocking him down. To be fair Cox made the effort to get up but he was exausted and as his legs gave way again the referee called it all off.

A nice stoppage win for Jamie Drayson.

Executive Stress Results: Jones In International Battle! PDF  | Print |  E-mail
Sunday, 03 March 2013 22:12

craig-jonesCraig Jones fought out of his skin against Norwegian Jan Eric Vardal on Executive Stress 3.

In a closely fought contest, the taller Viking made full use of his reach to control the relentless Jones, who attempted to walk through him early on.

Each judge gave the Nowegian the first round but he found it more difficult in the second to hold the Team Bulldog fighter off. Jones worked the body and head constantly with combinations and although Vardal defended well, 2 out of the 3 judges favoured Jones leaving the final round to make the difference.

With everything to fight for, both fighters opened up to try and make sure of the victory. There were moments of pure trading before Vardal went back to solid counter techniques.

Even so the judges were split in the final round, and ultimately the overall contest, with Vardal taking a split decision.

Like Shaun King, Craig Jones will get the opportunity to travel to Norway in April and put this one right.

Congratulations to Jan Eric for a great performance!

Executive Stress Results: King Drops Decision! PDF  | Print |  E-mail
Sunday, 03 March 2013 22:03

SHAUN-KINGShaun King made a satisfactory return to the ring/cage despite dropping a points decision.

Following a year of various commitments to charity events including a recent climb of mount Kilimanjaro, he decided a couple of weeks ago that he was fit enough to step into the fight arena at short notice.

Facing Estonian Karol Spyt he was out-hustled by the strong Eastern European, but never looked in any trouble.

King had difficulty getting to grips with Spyt's bullish style and over short durations like 3 rounds this was always gojng to be a problem. You give away a round and you are playing catch up.

This turned out to be the case as a little ring rust saw the Bulldog fighter just a little too casual.

No matter though. This will be the start of a busy year for King, who is scheduled to box again in 2 weeks and also has an offer on the table to compete in Norway at the start of April.

Countdown To Executive Stress: All Change For Alexander! PDF  | Print |  E-mail
Tuesday, 26 February 2013 17:28

dean-alexanderDean Alexander now fights under Thai rules on 'Executive Stress' against local import Sam Smith.

Smith looks good and has a nice record against decent opposition. His low kick and clinch are impressive and what he lacks in height against Alexander he will bring in heart! Although he has taken this at short notice he seems always to be in shape which is a credit to his attitude.

Alexander has mixed his styles but right now wants to stay with Thai & K1. He is, as usual, un-phazed by this contest. He says very little and knuckles down in the gym. He fights whomever is in front of him. His all round ability is good and his fitness is there. He has full respect for any and every opponent and is looking forward to this opportunity.

You should too!

Countdown To Executive Stress: Norman V Hodgkinson - Revenge or Repeat? PDF  | Print |  E-mail
Tuesday, 26 February 2013 17:18

CLARA-NORMANYes, this match up is still in place for 'Executive Stress'

Both fighters are 110% ready for this KBX rematch and both are better fighters than the first time around!

It's 1-0 to Norman, who has been hitting the pads at 6am and training 2-3 times per day including Sparring with World Champion Natalie Bee and European Champion Jenny Prowse for the last 8 weeks.

Hodgkinson will not want this one to go to 2-0 and following her conclusive win on Absolute Adrenaline last November, her confidence is sky high.

There are no secret game plans for this one. Whomever wants it the most, will win!

Both fighters have their strengths and will be aware of that, but they also showed before that they have granite chins and don't mind trading.

This will be a treat!

Countdown To Executive Stress: Jones Get's International Test! PDF  | Print |  E-mail
Tuesday, 26 February 2013 17:10

craig-jonesCraig Jones now faces Norwegian Jan Eric Verdai in an international White Collar Match up on 'Executive Stress'.

Verdai visited our shores lasty November when he gave Martin Saxon all kinds of problems before the harder hitting Bournemouth fighter took a points decision.

Jones is a similar height to Saxon and will have to bully his way in if he is to be succesful. Verdai will look to keep him at range and if he is able to we could see him run out a points winner.

If Jones keeps it up close and personal, he should deliver the goods.

As always you can expect our Norwegian friends to be in tip top physical condition. Jones has not always managed to maintain that level of fitness. However, in 2013 he has been in the gym almost everyday so may be this year will be a strong one for him?
