Stuart Lawson, who is actually World Champ also had opted for a defence of his British and Cornick, keen to mix it at world level answered the call. The contest was one of three parts, the first being Lawsons early control of the action. Whilst Cornick hunted him down, his superior footwork allowed him to fire combinations from all angles. It was clear as wee reached the middle stages of the battle, that Lawsons camp wanted him to step up and finish the job, which was just what Cornick wanted. The pair mixed it during rounds 4,5 & 6, with Cornick unsettling Lawson and giving him no space. Both men were rocked at times but neither looked to be in any trouble. When it was clear that Cornick would prefer the trade off, Lawson was instructed to step off again and rely on skills and movement to see the contest out. It was a clear victory for Lawson, but also a clear indication that Cornick has arrived at world level, and with a little work he will be back again in 2012 to challenge for major honours!
