| The Iceman Seminar: Review |
|
The much hyped Chuck Liddell super seminar in Bournemouth lived up to expectations despite a worrying delay prior to the event. Liddell had been scheduled to arrive at Heathrow at 11am but an issue with Worse was to come as the Friday night traffic delayed him even more and as people began to pour into the venue I recieved word that the car was still 70+ miles away and stuck in traffic. Back at the venue the spirit was good and several instructors led by Alex DeSouza led a warm up and demonstration of techniques to keep the fans occupied. Liddell arrived at the hotel just over an hour after the official start time, dumped his bags in reception and headed Met with raptuous applause he came straight in and delivered an excellent seminar beginning with his signature technique - the overarm right, followed by a full range of stand up and escape techniques. Throughout he communicated well with his audience and made sure that he got round to each pairing to deliver advice. Many students even got to roll with him. The training portion ended with a Q & A session which included the now famous question " who is your best friend" (you know who you are)! - We were waiting for someone to ask his favourite colour to top that one off:) At the back end of the seminar he stayed to sign every single autograph and have pictures with all the students. In fact as the promotional team attempted to move him from the building he was even offering up second helpings to fans. Mega fan and Team Bulldog cheerleader Tom Wareham (above Top) was especially pleased as he got hi limited edition action figure signed ( keep hold of that one Tom, it might be your retirement fund)! Considering his travel that day, and in fact the day before when he had flown to several American cities, stopping Following the seminar and with the schedule blown, it was down to me to find food for the entourage and after a bit of negotiation Bournemouth's Steak Out restaurant stayed open for us. A big thanks to them. Liddell and his family (who were with him) were down to earth, friendly and approachable. A long chat with him turned up some interesting stories and views that he holds strongly. It was clear that he holds his fans in high esteem and is very focussed on their needs and what is expected of him. As we left the restaurant and headed back to the hotel he was still signing autographs and posing for pictures, even in the hotel lobby at gone mid-night. Amazingly, despite his hectic schedule, he was up and training at 7am before breakfast. Our thanks to Fighters Inc (organisors of The Seni Show) for their partnership in this tour, our thanks to Chuck Liddell and his family for their professionalism. Also thanks to The Cumberland Hotel, Rossmore Leisure Centre & Steakout Restaurant for their flexibility. Most of all our thanks to the fans and students who got behind this unique experience and made it possible. This

straight for the venue.
off for only 2 hours at a hotel before leaving for dear old blighty, Chuck Liddell showed himself to be a true professional and a fans dream.
now gives us the scope and opportunity to negotiate with a number of other mega stars in the future.
