| Gen X: Sweeting Looks Sweet! |
|
Both Sweeting and Kerr opted to trade, clearly respectful of each others ground game. And it made for 3 rounds of carnage that the crowd absolutely loved. The early exchanges were even with both men giving and taking solid shots and it was clear that they both had chins that would stand the test. On the rare occasion that they went to ground one or other looked to get straight back to his feet, allowing the action to continue. The fitter man was Sweeting and he was relentless with his combinations whilst Kerr could only manage one or two shot combinations. This, for the main part was the difference in the contest. Sweeting got stronger, Kerr faded and began to take more punishment. His pride and stubborness kept him on his feet despite taking a one sided beating later on in the contest, but it has to be said that his regular, but short flurrys kept the fight competitive, and him in the game. By the 3rd round Kerr had gassed and Sweeting came out to finish the job, which he did with a superb uppercut 20 seconds in. A great value contest with congratulations going to both men.

This was a totally unexpected turn of events - A Judo player (James Sweeting) V Brazilain Jui Jitsu (Andy Kerr), a match up that you would expect to be won and lost on the floor - stood up for the entire contest!
