During the last few years White Collar Boxing has become extremely popular as an alternative to top level amateur and professional Boxing competition. What is White Collar Boxing? It is the opportunity for people who would never usually think of or get the chance to compete. Because of family or work commitments, or life restrictions in general, most of us can only dream of what might have been.White Collar Boxing allows you to train and compete at a certain level that is comfortable yet challenging and rewarding. See other articles and interviews on this site for more information. Who Can Take Part? From the original concept of men between the ages of 25-40 taking part in one off contest's for charity, publicity or just for fun - the sport has evolved into an industry open to all (16+), and a regular circuit exists for those wishing to compete regularly. Over 40's require additional medical clearance and matchmaking is conducted according to age and experience. How Does It Differ From Normal Boxing? As a subsidised national institution Amateur Boxing Clubs are interested in competitors only. Their job is to find the next Olympic contender and they do this well. If you don't fit into that bracket, your options are limited. Pro gyms look for earning potential, and that will normally involve good amateur pedigree. White Collar seeks a committment that suits you, and whilst you will have to step things up and put the work in if you wish to compete, there is no pressure to appear at the Olympics or compete 10 times per year. What About In Competition? Both amateur and pro Boxing use 10oz Boxing gloves. White Collar uses 16oz sparring gloves and also approved headguards. The emphasis is on you enjoying the buzz of competition. There are no million pound contracts on the line so nobody is going to push you to take huge amounts of punishment. It's an achievable goal (if you want it) and something that most of your mates will be in awe of - because they will only talk about it!
